Ivy is a good dog. She is 9/10 years old now , she is blind, her lower teeth are worn down so not only does she drool but when she sleeps her tongue falls out and being blind she sleeps with her eyes open. Quite a site for sure.
So Ivy came to me via the Humane Society. Dropped in one day just to see, just in case. I walked 2 other dogs before Ivy but they were too much dog for me. Ivy is a cattle dog so you know she is smart. She does not disappoint and home we go.
I don’t know why she is blind or why she ended up at the Humane Society but it is my good luck.
Whoever raised her did a fabulous job. When we go for walks out at Green Valley Park she becomes a pet therapy dog. Walks up to people to get her petting, most people will stop for a pet and she really leans into it. Her record is 13 people in one lap around the lake. Last trip out she got 7 pets. Pretty good day for an old blind girl.
So how does she get along with my other 2 dogs? Well Pickles, a Tibetan spaniel, with big, round brown, soft eyes can be a little jealous at times but her nature is too laid back to do much. But then there is the Chihuahua, Snookums, AKA Cujo, the heat seeking missile who fancies herself as as a Mexican Pitbull.
Yep, a good thing Ivy is so easy going. Snookums is coming around, most of the time. She’s just lucky she is so cute otherwise.
