I happened to attend coffee ☕️ time with the veterans on Tuesday morning, April 25th, to hear the current mayor, Chris Higgins, speak his side of the story on the 401/402 Propositions vote. He and 5 other councilors voted to repeal Props. 401/402 under an emergency clause. I was interested to hear how he would defend his action to repeal propositions voted in 2018 by over 60% of the voters. Well first, I was surprised to hear Chris say, “I won’t run for another term as Mayor.” in front of a large room full of veterans and citizens who like me support the veterans. He clearly defended his decision to repeal the 401/402 Propositions, but I was thinking to myself, “Why then would he not seek another term in 2024 if he had the support of the people?”
After the meeting I asked him why the Splash Pad was on the agenda for Wednesday’s town council meeting and Mayor Higgins said, “The council wants to cancel the Splash Pad.” In the April 26th town council meeting the council did indeed vote 6-1 to stop the Splash Pad. What insight he had a day before was amazing to me, he should have been a fortune teller. Could these votes be the reason why he announced he will not be running for another term? Or do we have more surprises to come? I asked the veterans for a minute to speak after Chris was done. I first thanked all the veterans including Chris for their service. Then I commented that Chris and I are on good terms with no personal attacks toward each other, but I mentioned I will still be filing for his recall on June 8th due to his vote to repeal something over 60% of the people in Payson voted into law. (Propositions 401/402). Nothing personal. I told Chris that he can resign early after I get the signatures required for the Recall Election. You have 5 days to resign office or declare yourself as a candidate and run in the recall election. To me, it’s about principles. If you take away the vote of the people by repealing their propositions I believe it warrants a recall. PS: The People’s Recall as WE call it, will grow to all 6 councilors. No exceptions, as I say it’s about principles if we have any left in this day and age of election malfeasances. It’s all about Saving the Vote. Anyway no hard feelings Chris as I announced I will be administering the Recalls with Kindness. By the way Transparent Payson who wrote the propositions for the people will be taking donations for upcoming court litigation.
