
Janell Sterner who are you? I am a follower of Christ, A mother of 2 wonderful children, grandmother of 2 beautiful granddaughters and 1 on the way, enjoy being outdoors, hiking and working out at the gym.
Are you content with your life? Yes, God has blessed me with everything I need.
What has been your biggest accomplishment so far in life? Spreading God’s Word as a teacher.
What businesses, boards, committees, sub-committees, charters, commissions, non-profits, foundations, political or not political appointments or elected position have you been/or are you not a part of? Former D.A.R.E. President, Former Tea Party President, Founder /President of the Northern Gila Community Drug Task Force, and Vice Mayor –Town of Payson.
Why are you running for Town Council? To allow residents to have a voice in the community they live in, continue to make Payson a transparent town and develop a business friendly atmosphere.
Have you run for or held this or another office before? Yes and I was elected as town council member in 2016.
What is it you would like voter to know about you? I am passionate about the Town of Payson and want to see healthy growth and work to clean up the corruption.
What makes you the best candidate? I will work for the people by being proactive and listening to their concerns/complaints. I would like to see the residents and Town Staff work and communicate together as a community.
What is your #1 goal while in office? To make sure the residents are heard and informed with transparency so they can take part in creating a safe community to live.
What would you do differently than current officials? Work towards the housing crisis where residents can live in homes that are affordable, lower water rates, work towards keeping Payson a drug-free town and homeless issues, use taxpayer money wisely when it come to capital improvement projects and work with the residents on important issues regarding the town.
Do you see the benefit in the Town being a part of the SLE? No, the SLE is its own government and can create their own laws and rules and not abide by the town they reside in. I am against the SLE.
Payson sells water to the county clubs at a loss to the town for 50 years, what would you do about it? I would stop the current water rates and have them repay the amount back over a short period of time. They will pay the same as the residents in town. No kick back or back door deals.
Do you want Payson to grow? Yes, I would like to see healthy growth, in order to balance both young generations and the senior citizens.
If so, how and where do you think growing would most benefit Payson? Have Light industrial businesses and a call center that could provide higher wages, develop apartments/town homes/ condos/houses that are affordable for the middle class workers to create a larger workforce base. Work with the younger parents to develop a plan to create a play center for all children.
If you could see into the future, what would Payson be like in 5 years? A Payson that is patriotic, conservative, and compassionate where the residents are working along side the Town Hall in harmony. Develop a proper Community Center, Broadband that provides redundancy, and put a cover over the Event Center.
What is our responsibility for community sustainability in Payson? I believe that we need to be responsible to have a sustainable community by making sure all the residents’ voices are apart of the process.
Would you support more regulation or more enforcement? I support more enforcement in all departments of the town hall.
Would you support partnerships with state and federal agencies or local town and county collaborations?Yes, if done in the right format and depends on with whom we are partnering.
Are we doing enough clean energy production or can we do more? I believe the town can do more to create clean energy.
Would you support more small businesses or more chain franchises? I would support more small businesses.
Would you support better education or more education? I support quality education for all students.
Do you think there should be an ethics committee to govern Town employees and officials and hold them accountable for their actions? Definitely, Absolutely 100%.
