In 2003 while taking a Philosophy of Education class at Northern Illinois University, I witnessed what appeared to be a majority of the education students expressing that their mission was to evangelize for the secular progress movement. Better known as ‘Wokism” today. The new teachers were out to champion sexism, environmentalism, misogyny, feminism, racism, promote socialism, and everything labeled ‘justice’ that you can think of. They’re not in the classroom to accurately explain American exceptionalism or teach history and the US Constitution. They have contempt for the values embedded in our founding documents and our Judeo-Christian beliefs. They substitute feelings for right and wrong, self-esteem for self-discipline, equality for liberty, and entitlement for freedom.
A big part of the problem is that the teachers and students today have been taught that man is naturally good. If you do not believe me, go into any Junior or Senior classroom in any public school and ask for a show of hands if you believe man is naturally good. You will find close to 90% of the hands go up. Go into a well taught Christian school and you will find a much different response.
What are the ramifications of the belief that man is naturally good? First, is that any abhorrent behavior is not the fault of the individual. How can a naturally good person behave in any hateful or disrespectful manner? Their behavior must be the result of some form of toxicity in their environment. Therefore, with proper social engineering we can address the misbehavior. We certainly cannot hold the individual accountable for their behavior. But who decide what is acceptable behavior? What criteria is used to judge ‘acceptable’ (naturally good) behavior? Because of their contempt for Christianity, there are certainly no absolute values coming out of this process if religion is excluded.
Without a Judeo-Christian foundation it is left up to the enlightened elitist among us to decide – maybe the cabal.
From a Judeo-Christian perspective we know man is a fallen being. Here is what Scriptures tells us:
Genesis 8:21
… for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth; and I will never again destroy every living thing, as I have done.
Genesis 6:5
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
How anyone can look back through human history and conclude that man is naturally good is beyond reason. As a Christians I understand that my biggest problem in life is me, Jim Ferris, and my own sinful nature. The leftist falsely believe that man is naturally good so their biggest battles in life are all the ‘isms’ described above; and that is what is being taught in our schools. Three generation have been fed this garbage. Is it too late? Good people have sat on the sidelines far too long saying, “well it’s in God’s hands”. If by faith our hands are not doing God’s work, then whose hands are?
How does all of this affect education? If students are led to believe that they are naturally good, then any abhorrent behavior they exhibit is not their fault. They cannot be held accountable for their behavior because they are conditioned to FEEL that their behavior was justified. For decade we have taught our youth that their feelings are legitimate and to be regarded as most important. Consequently, they are led to believe they have no accountability for their actions. If you hurt their feelings, they are justified in violently lashing out.
Feelings can be either life supporting or destructive, but we have been coddling individual’s feelings as legitimate and valid. Feelings that are inappropriate and destructive need to be called out for what they are – immature and inappropriate – And maybe ungodly. Oh, how dare I suggest!
We have become ‘feelings based’ in all aspects of our society. What is most important is that: Everybody gets a trophy; everybody has a right to be offended; self-esteem is more important than self-control; equality over liberty; and diversity trumps right and wrong. Where does it end? – When we become a God-centered society.
